What participation involves
The study includes 3 parts.

Part 1
We need one parent or guardian to complete the animation survey on the internet. If you do not have access to broadband-internet you will be given a DVD and a one page written survey to complete at home.  To check the reliability of our results we also need the survey to be repeated 2 weeks later by some parents.

Part 2
This involves an interview by an epilepsy specialist to confirm the accuracy of our questionnaire. It takes about 20 minutes. This can be done either at school, or if preferred, at home or by telephone.

Part 3
The final part involves an EEG test and will only be performed if I suspect your child has epilepsy or I am uncertain.

An EEG measures a person’s brain waves by placing a cap on the child’s head, similar to one worn when swimming, but with metal buttons attached to the inside.  The test is painless and usually takes about 30 minutes.
