What does participation involve?
The study include 3 parts.

Part 1
Secondary school students will complete a 10 minute survey in their classroom after watching five seizure animations. Students will be assisted to complete the survey by the study researchers and their classroom teacher.
We also need one parent or guardian to complete the same animation survey separately on the internet.  If you do not have access to broadband-internet you will be given a DVD & a one page written survey to complete at home.  To check the reliability of our results we also need the survey to be repeated two weeks later by some students and parents.
Part 2
This involves a 20-30 minute interview by an epilepsy specialist to confirm the accuracy of our survey. This can be done either at school, or if preferred, at home or by telephone.
Part 3
The final part involves an EEG test and will only be performed I suspects your child has epilepsy or I am uncertain.  This is a method of measuring a person’s brain waves by placing a cap on your child’s head, similar to one worn when swimming, but with metal buttons attached to the inside.  The test is painless and usually takes about 30 minutes
